He was 63.
Ratoff, who wrote many of the original scripts of stage plays and films he directed, was born on April 20, 1897 in Petrograd, now Leningrad, in Russia, where he began his stage career after finishing commercial college. He went to New York 1932 to appear on Broadway. In more recent years he produced and directed the stage hit "All About Eve" and several films, among them "Black "The Heat's On," and "Operation Before the he acted in many Broadway plays including "Blossom Time."
